Caring for your pearls

Made to be worn, not saved. A piece meant to be lived in, kept, and one day passed on. The gold and steel ask almost nothing; the pearls like a soft cloth now and then.

I
On wearing

Made for every day.

The metal is 18k gold PVD over high-grade stainless steel: water-resistant, hypoallergenic, and made to hold its colour. It will not tarnish, fade, or mark the skin. The pearls are softer, though, so set a piece down before water and keep it from perfume, and they will hold their lustre for years.

Caught in the rain or a splash at the sink? A quick pat dry, and you are done.

II
On the pearls

A soft cloth keeps them bright.

Freshwater and shell-based pearls are a little softer than the metal around them. At the end of a day, run a soft, dry cloth gently over each pearl. That is all they ask: no jewellery dip, no polish, no scrubbing.

III
On chemicals

Last on, first off.

The gold finish shrugs off daily life, but pearls are happiest away from perfume sprayed directly on them, bleach, acetone, and abrasive cleaners. Get ready first, then put your jewellery on last. Last on, first off.

IV
On storing

Dry, and a little apart.

Store your pieces dry, and keep pearls from rubbing against harder edges. The velvet pouch or box your piece arrives in is the right size to keep it in.
